AITC receives latest CASA certification
25 November 2008
The Aviation Industry Training Centre (AITC) physical capability to deliver world-class training is backed up by the latest approval by the aviation industry's peak body the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
As the only training organisation in Victoria to have received the Civil Aviation Order 100.66, Kangan Batman TAFE's AITC can provide end-to-end aircraft maintenance training from a Melbourne location.
Kangan Batman TAFE CEO Ray Griffiths says the certification, which was granted in late-2008, reflects the AITC's push to provide comprehensive training packages of the highest quality.
"CASA introduced these latest maintenance training and licensing standards in 2007 to allow the aviation industry the opportunity to become more competitive in the international aviation market," he says.
"The new training standards are closely aligned with best-practice European standards, so our claims that we offer world-class training are supported by the industry's statutory authority."
CASA was established on July 6, 1995 as an independent statutory authority. Under section 8 of the, Civil Aviation Act 1988, CASA is a body corporate separate from the Commonwealth.
CASA's primary function is to conduct the safety regulation of civil air operations in Australia and the operation of Australian aircraft overseas.
Along with the AITC's Skilling for Aviation project, the CASA certification is another example which has helped Kangan Batman TAFE's reputation as a responsive, innovative training organisation.
With training programs which underpin and align with skills shortage areas while providing industry with the opportunity to up-skill, the AITC is acutely aware of its role in the current economic and employment climate.
"There's no doubt the aviation industry is one which will continue to grow, and continue to demand a skilled workforce," Ray says.
"Our Skilling for Aviation project, which incorporates the CASA certification, the purchase of a Boeing 737 as a dedicated training tool and a recently announced partnership with leading global training organisation Lufthansa Technical Training, is one way we can contribute to the greater national skills development effort to take us into a successful future."
