Safety first at Kangan Institute
Friday 18 June 2010
In the interest of creating a safer training environment, Kangan Institute is implementing a Personal Protective Equipment and Clothing (PPE&C) policy. The policy has been developed to minimise dangers and risks for students and staff operating within the Technical Group.
All students and teaching staff are expected to adhere to the policy starting from Monday, July 12 2010. Due to legislation, any students not wearing correct protective clothing from the start of second semester will unfortunately be unable to attend any classes until they have the correct protective clothing and equipment. Common questions about the initiative are answered in the PPE&C FAQ.
At all times within Kangan Institute workshops, students must wear safety footwear (leather workboots) and protective clothing such as overalls or cotton drill work pants (long or short) and a shirt. Sleeveless tops and casual clothing is unacceptable.
Depending on the work being completed, additional safety clothing and equipment may also be required. These items can include safety goggles, hearing protection, hard hat or gloves. Additionally a hat and sunscreen will be required for outdoor work when the weather dictates. For a full explanation on the PPE&C conditions, please view the PPE&C Operational Policy document.
If students require financial support to purchase the required protective clothing, a Student Loan Application Form is available from Counselling and Advisory Services on 03 9279 2511. Students may contact the Student Welfare Officer on 03 9279 2494 to discuss their options.
